Money Can’t Buy It

The Name

Money Can’t Buy It by Annie Lennox

I had originally used the name Money Can’t Buy It on a project I was going to begin for myself. After I had named the project I came up with a better name; that’s when this name became available. When you think about it this name is more appropriate for this charity scarf because you don’t need money to buy it! <Wink>

The Scarf

Dimensions: 4 x 64 inches (approximate)

This scarf will be donated to Interval House via the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers.

The Yarn

Unknown Red 1

Color: Elmo*
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: Worsted?

Unknown Red 2

Color: Dusty Scarlett Lady*
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: DK?

Lang Lucia

Color: 741.0034?; Celestial Ascension*
Content: 28% Viscose, 27% Viscose-Bamboo, 24% Nylon, 19% Cotton, 2% Polyester
Weight: DK?

Unknown Blue 2

Color: Snow Tiger
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: Worsted?

I think Unknown Red 1 was a nylon/microfiber mix of some kind; non-furry portion was very stretchy. I liked it.

Can’t say the same thing for Unknown Red 2: I was not crazy about the glitter portion; it actually looked crinkled. Then, these furry puffs started appearing and I my opinion began to raise. My joy was short-lived as I discovered that they broke off when I pulled them through the knitting. To make matters worse, you can see the level of break-down on my t-shirt.

Money Can't Buy It

I thought I had bought the Lang Lucia from Needlepoints West, but the label says L’Atelier, so I don’t know where I obtained the yarn, but I love then the label is available.

Unknown Blue 2 was found in my stash.

Hooker Notes

I knit cast-on twenty stitches and continued in garter, changing yarns on the same side every time.

* Color assignations per Hooker Leo, absent yarn label

The way the gradient is hidden, but it is there equals strange magic.

About Strange Magic

I had started a previous item in a similar manner, but decided to 🐸 it and use that yarn in a project in hibernation. The technique I am using is similar to brioche, but horizontal. The first experiment began with knit cast on. Row 2 is worked knit in the same direction as the cast on, by sliding the fabric to the other side of a set of circular needles. Fabric is then turned and worked in the same manner. In short Knit/Knit.

For Strange Magic, I once again used two colors, but this time it did a Knit/Purl. Guess what? They look the same to me. I think I am in the area of illusion knitting because the gradient on yarn 1 is kinda hidden between the rows, yet still shows itself, depending on which angle you are viewing Strange Magic from.

The fabric is very slinky. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d add a pink fur border on both sides. Oh stop! :D

A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

About The Project Name

A Hazy Shade Of Winter by Bangles

Shades of white, grey and black are very representative of winter for me: snow, gloom, depression.

About A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

More often than not, I will knit novelty yarns because I can see the live stitches on the needle; crochet does not offer such easy visibility sometimes. Because I only had sixty-six yards per skein, I knew it had to be a scarf. I started several times: k1b, ribs, garter, stockinette, I could not make up my mind. I decided to go with stockinette field surrounded by garter because I know stockinette has a tendency to curl and I am not about to block anything.

I still notice how the garter edges keep folding, back, behind the stockinette. Grr! There must be a solution; that shall be my mission.

Love this yarn because I am a mohair fan. Color: Gorgeous! Knitability: Easy, but watch out for the second strand getting loose. Because they only identify yarn color by number, I don’t know which color is the odd man out, nor which color corresponds to which color

Get Off Of My Cloud Shawl

Get Off Of My Cloud Shawl USD $50.00, less 20% Environmental Donation

About The Project Name

Get Off Of My Cloud by The Rolling Stones was inspired by the ribbon used to make this shawl. It could also be a snub to any competing designers, as I managed improvise invisible increases. :D

Because the yarn manufacturer was unidentifiable, this item qualifies as an ODDBALL.

Dimensions: 36-inch nape / 58-inch wingspan / 16-inch depth

About The Pattern

Shalom Cardigan by Meghan McFarlane of Involving The Senses

Clear writing makes this pattern easy to follow. If you follow the link, you see that I took the yoke of the cardigan and converted to a shawl pattern. The reason I liked it was because I though it would consume my last spool of ribbon; if if it did not, I could probably improvise some increase with some help from other knitters.

Shalom Cardigan only includes three pattern repeats. I still had ribbon. So what I did was take the previous increases and increased the stitch number by one. It seemed to work, except for the border, which because of it’s shortness, turned into a mild ruffle, which is okay by me.

Red Blooded Woman Cowl

Red Blooded Woman Cowl – Charity Donation

About The Project Name

Red Blooded Woman by Kylie Minogue

I kept thinking blood with the dark red colors. A “red” search of my music library revealed Red Blooded Woman and a lightbulb turned on. I’ll tell you by the end, I was “hot-“tempered trying to make a border on a very loose fabric to hide some wonkiness.

The designation of this project is on hold for the moment, as I am not sure to whom it belongs. The yarn was scooped up from the charity table at the end of my last guild meeting. I asked if it was free, received confirmation from another member – I think it was Kathy McF – and took it. Like I need more yarn!

I need to stop doing that; the good thing is that I work it up immediately. So it’s in and out. Besides, my UFOs are piling up!

I suppose because the item contains both labeled yarns and oddballs, I think I will donate it back to the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers Charity Division.

Anna Sun Cowl USD $50.00

About Anna Sun

The second of fraternal twins made from the same set of oddballs.

Anna Sun represents the use of all my heavier, bulky-weight yarns. Again, because there are different weights of yarn with different fiber contents (man-made and natural, all per burn test), there is some cinching of the width in some places, and again, if the cowl is doubled- or triple-wrapped during wear, the cinching becomes unnoticeable.

Anna Molly Cowl USD $30.00

About Anna Molly

The first of a set of fraternal twins made from the same set of oddballs.

One yarn was labeled, but I lost it. :( Because I the yarns were different weights, I had to double-strand some, which accounts for some cinching of the width, but while wearing doubled-up, it becomes unnoticeable.

I think I will try to sell first, as I have a business plan now and could certainly use some additional income. :)
