Stray Cat Strut

The Name

Stray Cat Strut by Stray Cats

Another animal name for an animal product and because “I got cat class and I got cat style!”

The Cush Tush

Dimensions: 14-inch diameter

This time I was determined to work in double crochet for faster turnaround. Well I finished this one is less than a day, so that’s cool! I originally started with a square but have forgotten the formula for a square design, with no holes, in-the-round. Now that I’ve made a round one, I am thinking of different shapes; maybe a star one! Color selections were random reaches into my bag o’ scraps of worsted yarn.

I apologize for my crappy photography; I can no longer remain still long enough for good focus.

Money Can’t Buy It

The Name

Money Can’t Buy It by Annie Lennox

I had originally used the name Money Can’t Buy It on a project I was going to begin for myself. After I had named the project I came up with a better name; that’s when this name became available. When you think about it this name is more appropriate for this charity scarf because you don’t need money to buy it! <Wink>

The Scarf

Dimensions: 4 x 64 inches (approximate)

This scarf will be donated to Interval House via the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers.

The Yarn

Unknown Red 1

Color: Elmo*
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: Worsted?

Unknown Red 2

Color: Dusty Scarlett Lady*
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: DK?

Lang Lucia

Color: 741.0034?; Celestial Ascension*
Content: 28% Viscose, 27% Viscose-Bamboo, 24% Nylon, 19% Cotton, 2% Polyester
Weight: DK?

Unknown Blue 2

Color: Snow Tiger
Content: Man-made, per burn test
Weight: Worsted?

I think Unknown Red 1 was a nylon/microfiber mix of some kind; non-furry portion was very stretchy. I liked it.

Can’t say the same thing for Unknown Red 2: I was not crazy about the glitter portion; it actually looked crinkled. Then, these furry puffs started appearing and I my opinion began to raise. My joy was short-lived as I discovered that they broke off when I pulled them through the knitting. To make matters worse, you can see the level of break-down on my t-shirt.

Money Can't Buy It

I thought I had bought the Lang Lucia from Needlepoints West, but the label says L’Atelier, so I don’t know where I obtained the yarn, but I love then the label is available.

Unknown Blue 2 was found in my stash.

Hooker Notes

I knit cast-on twenty stitches and continued in garter, changing yarns on the same side every time.

Got ‘Til It’s Gone

The Name

Got ‘Til It’s Gone by Janet Jackson

Ha ha! I just realized this name is appropriate for many of my projects. However, it is most poignant for this project, as I actually crocheted until I ran out of yarn.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 54 x 4 inches

I’m a big fan of the colors in this yarn. I believe the alternating post treble crochets create a richly dense and squishy fabric.

The Yarn

Bernat Baby Jacquards Florals

Color: 06700 Orange Blossom
Content: 90% Acrylic, 10% Nylon
Weight: 3 – Light, DK

The biggest surprise to me about this yarn was the softness and the ease working the turning chain, properly: through the top. The additional colors are supposed to present as – what looks to me – grape bunches; would’ve been nice, but not expected with improvised pattern, and unconcerned.

Hooker Notes

This scarf represents one skein; I only wish I had another, as I am used to longer scarves. Had I known, I would’ve doubled the width to make a cowl instead.

As suspected, my ribs started curling on the sides, making me miss stitches. I solved this with a crochet back-loop edge.

One In Ten

Name

One In Ten by 808 State

The association is between the name of the song: one in ten; and the name of this pattern: ten-stitch.

Afghan

Dimensions: 28-inch Squared

I was looking around my room for something new to start knitting, having finished Stairway To Heaven. I came across a blue of purple/blue scraps, which led me to thinking about One In Ten, another project I had recently uncovered from April 2016. To free up a project bag, I pulled it out and resumed.

At first it took me a second to remember the correct connection scheme I had chosen. Once that came back, I was faced with a corner. I wasn’t sure I wanted to tax my mind so much in one day, and it looked big enough that I could end it for a baby or infant. What the heck!

Pattern

Ten Stitch Blanket by Frankie Brown

Fibers consist of most anything you can think: acrylic, nylon, wool, silk, polyester, bamboo, soy, cotton.

Brass Monkey Scarf

Brass Monkey Scarf

About The Name

Brass Monkey by The Beastie Boys

At first it was going to be called Take That To The Bank, but when I saw that the color contained the word brass, combined with the photography, I had to change the name.

About Brass Monkey

I was going to combine this yarn with a orange/red and stripe them, but the orange/red was too bulky so I left it out.

This is a simple garter stitch on size thirteen needles over ten stitches.

In the pictures, it look furry, but in reality it is squishy and the gold fiber catches the light, reflections capturing the texture of the ribbon/tape yarn.

About The Yarn

Crystal Palace Glam

Care: Handwash or Dry Clean. Dry Flat
Color: 2138 Rich Brown Brass
Content: 36% Acrylic, 35% Rayon, 15% Wool, 14% Nylon
Weight: 5, Bulky

I found the yarn easy to work with, minus the minor snags of the ribbon catching on the needle tips. My biggest complaint is the twisting of the ribbon as it comes off the ball. So glad to be done.

Hey, Saint Peter: Off da Hook

Hey, Saint Peter: Off da Hook

About The Name

Hey, Saint Peter by Flash and the Pan

Peter Pan > Hey, Saint Peter. Interestingly, another association could be drawn from Captain Hook’s waistcoat > waistcoat stitch, the stitch used to create this scarf.

About Hey, Saint Peter Scarf

I am on a mission to knock out some serious crocheting/knitting and red myself of all the extra yarn I have. That is why I took this opportunity to learn, right? How about Waistcoat Stitch? Also known as, Knit Stitch, and pleasantly referred to as Pigeon Stitch by myself because it does not line up when worked by turning rows, as it does in-the-round.

Hey, Saint Peter had a hex on it from the very beginning. In my previous post, you’ll note my experience with trying to find a video that properly teaches waistcoat stitch. Once again, I started with too loose a tension and unfortunately, by the time I was finishing I was angry crocheting.  Because the videos were improperly clear, the first half was done according to my understanding; when I joined the second skein it dawned on me what I was doing wrong. However, this new way presented different problems: for some reason I could not get my crochet-bearing, and I think the reason was because of hook placement. Just glad to be done. Might use waistcoat stitch with a no-ply yarn.

Dimensions: 50.5-inch length x 4.5-inch width

About The Yarn

Wendy Peter Pan Double (2 skeins)

Care: Machine washable. Cool tumble dry.
Color: 992
Content: 55% Nylon, 45% Acrylic
Weight: 3, DK

About The Two Clouds Above Nine

The second of two improvisations on a crochet crescent shawl. I was too focused on a second row of single crochet that I completely forgot the selvedge edge I had used on No Strings (I’m Fancy Free)  – evidenced by the uneven horizon…grr!

Still, I love the stripe pattern; it appears smoother than version one.

By the by…No Strings (I’m Fancy Free) met it’s fate after the last yard sale. I discovered when returning to storage, that the yarn had been broken. Not worth fixing. Services were extremely humble; no mourners in attendance.

And then mother resurrected No Strings (I’m Fancy Free)…the saga continues to be written, but the destiny will forever remain unknown.
