You Learn

The Name

You Learn by Alanis Morissette

This was the best song title that I could “link” to this knit project. I chose this song title in relation to the fact that I “learned” something I didn’t know before, and re-learned something I did.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 66 x 4/5 inches

Cast on twelve stitches and work stockinette for three rows, alternated with reverse stockinette. I chose use this pattern from an old one I used before; the difference with this one is that there are no chevrons or zig zags…hmmm! I should be able to make zig zags.

The Yarn

Michaels Loops & Threads Links
Color: 12002 Rich Brown; Content: 74% Acrylic, 18% Wool, 8% Polyester; Weight: 5, Bulky

Unknown Gold
Color: Rumlestiltskin*; Content: Unknown; Weight: Lace*

This is where I “learned” something new. I learned that double-stranding a bulky and a lace, does actually add weight to the yarn – evidenced by the beginning five-inch width and ending with a four-inch width. However, it seemed that the second ball was a bit thinner also.

I re-learned the need to alternate two multicolor yarns of the same color to avoid different pooling patterns.

Pussycat Meow

The Name

Pussycat Meow by Deee-Lite

Another tush that needs some cush!

The Tush Cush

Dimensions: 15 inches square

This time I created in double crochet for faster turnaround. It still took just as long as the single crochet, only because I had to recall to memory my Solid Granny Square pattern. Maybe I better write it down before dementia sets in.

Yarn

Caron Simply Soft
Color: Black; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Worsted

Red Heart Super Saver
Color: Yellow*; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Worsted

Those are the only two I could come close to guessing. All other yarns – red, orange, green-purple multicolor, red-blue multicolor, tan, pink, brown – were deemed by me, as worsted and man-made fibers, except the gold lace crocheted together with the black Caron.

Stray Cat Strut

Stray Cat Strut by Stray Cats

Another animal name for an animal product and because “I got cat class and I got cat style!”

The Cush Tush

Dimensions: 14-inch diameter

This time I was determined to work in double crochet for faster turnaround. Well I finished this one is less than a day, so that’s cool! I originally started with a square but have forgotten the formula for a square design, with no holes, in-the-round. Now that I’ve made a round one, I am thinking of different shapes; maybe a star one! Color selections were random reaches into my bag o’ scraps of worsted yarn.

The Yarn

I apologize for my crappy photography; I can no longer remain still long enough for good focus.

Bread And Butter

The Name

Bread And Butter by The Newbeats

This was the closest I was able to associate with my music library, after searching yellow, plaid, gingham, square, checkers and finally butter.

The Afghan

Dimensions: 30 x 33 inches

This is my first plaid/gingham attempt. Being the king of scraps, I was had plenty of yellow scraps to work with. And because I like a challenge, even it is a coincidence, I am digging the gradients in this design: midtone: hue shift and undertone: light to dark – a gradi-plaid, ginghad, plaham?

The Yarn

Super Yarn Mart! Odd Balls

Color: Lemon Meringue*
Content: 100% miscellaneous odd lots of undetemined fiber content

Bucilla softex

Color: 26 [Butterscotch*]
Content: 100% Dupont Orlon Acrylic Fibre

All yarns were worsted/aran weights. I did not keep good track of the unlabeled yarns, as this was a learning project. All colors fall within the yellow-orange spectrum, including some self-named colors: Buttercup* and Gold.*

Below is the palette I worked from, incorporating lightest shades first.

Stairway To Heaven

Name

Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin

When I had originally begun this scarf, it was going to be a mish-mosh of yarn scraps, but as time progressed, it decided to make it uniform. The glitter is what led me to thinking about a stairway (chevrons) to heaven.

Stairway To Heaven

Scarf

Dimensions: 43-inch (L) x 4-inch (W)

As you can see from the previous blog posts, this scarf has undergone several changes to make it to completion, and working on US size two needles, I am so happy to finally be done with this scarf.

The original pattern – Keeping Rosita Warm by Nadia Severns – called for stockinette; I changed to garter so my scarf would lay flat. I was please that the stitch pattern converted as well.

Stairway To Heaven

Yarn

Darella (Discontinued)

Care: Hand wash in cold water with mild liquid soap. Do not rub or twist. Rinse several times in cold clear water. Do not wring. Dry flat away from heat.
Color: 101 (Black+) and 134 (Dark Fairy+)
Content: 40% Metallized Polyester, 60% Cupro Rayon
Weight: 0, Lace

Pretty glitter yarns. The black was a different ply and kept separating easier, which is not good. The dark fairy colorway knit better.

End It On This

Name

End It On This by No Doubt

The significance of this name is in the fact that it is the end of the yarn remnants from that same raffle basket, gifted to me by Rosa at the 2018 June El Segundo Slipt Stitchers meeting.

End It On This Scarf

I’ll admit that I am digging these scarves…FAST…EASY…fun matching different yarns.

I have no idea. No testing for natural versus man-made fibers.

Highway To Hell: Arrived!

Name

Highway To Hell by AC/DC

Criminy! I have been writing this post as a first post for a new project I started today, having forgotten the project I finished today and for which I had been awaiting a sew job by mother, which she finished. I had photographed, measured and BRAIN FART!

Name pertains to hibernation and frogging of Stairway To Heaven, and going in another direction a la Highway To Hell, the primrose path. Highway To Hell also refers to the challenge of knitting with yarn so slippery it does not knot, on slippery needles. Fortunately, I that did not happen at all.

Highway To Hell Scarf

Made from a ribbon yarn laying around my room/workshop and glitter yarn from the raffle basket, won by Rosa at the June 2018 El Segundo Slipt Stitchers guild meeting, and gifted to me.
