The Hat

Size: Toddler!
Destination: Charity

As I approach mental block, I improvised a matching hat for Baby, You’re Mine. The designer of Ophrys cowl, on which Baby, You’re Mine is based, showed a matching hat on her blog. One look and I knew it was another gather-top; not a fan.

I didn’t know how to pass the crown increases with the Glover Stitch, so I used single crochet. Unfortunately, I made my crown smaller than I had aimed. Oh well, they are going to charity and there’s no guarantee they’ll stay together.

The Cowl

Dimensions: 11 (W) x 9.5 (H) inches
Pattern: Ophrys Cowl by Jenniefer Andersson
Destination: Charity

Found this pattern by going to the last search page on Ravelry and paging backwards. I like the texture, and then was more pleased to learn it was a new stitch: Glover Stitch. Despite, my crocheting the stitch wrong, I still like it.

The Yarn

Caron Simply Soft*
Color: Ocean; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Aran

Unknown Turquoise
Color: Basia**; Content: Acrylic***; Weight: 4, Worsted****

I just picked up on the fact that Ravelry classifies this yarn as aran; highly doubtful on my part. I am pretty sure the other is a Cascade Pacific yarn; in the my mind I can picture it in the store I used to work in. I just could not match color on their website.

Mink, Schmink

The Name

Mink, Schmink by Eartha Kitt

I loved this song when I discovered it; I still do. The pink yarn used in this scarf was the inspiration for this name.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 82 x 6 inches

Worked brown: purl, knit; pink: knit purl, alternating colors every two passes. Surprisingly, I ended up with a different feature color on either side.

Under The Bridge: Off da Hook

The Name

Under The Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers

This is my homeless series of bags: the other two are called Gypsy Woman and Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?

The Bag

Dimensions: 29 inches squared; 16-inch depth from point of intersection

I should’ve followed the pattern, but wanted a bigger bag, as I am a big guy, homeless people have a lot of stuff to carry, and the other guild members could use this bag considering the amount of yarn I see them lugging around the meeting.

Destination still to be determined.

The Cush Tush

Dimensions: 14-inch diameter

This time I was determined to work in double crochet for faster turnaround. Well I finished this one is less than a day, so that’s cool! I originally started with a square but have forgotten the formula for a square design, with no holes, in-the-round. Now that I’ve made a round one, I am thinking of different shapes; maybe a star one! Color selections were random reaches into my bag o’ scraps of worsted yarn.

Bread And Butter

The Name

Bread And Butter by The Newbeats

This was the closest I was able to associate with my music library, after searching yellow, plaid, gingham, square, checkers and finally butter.

The Afghan

Dimensions: 30 x 33 inches

This is my first plaid/gingham attempt. Being the king of scraps, I was had plenty of yellow scraps to work with. And because I like a challenge, even it is a coincidence, I am digging the gradients in this design: midtone: hue shift and undertone: light to dark – a gradi-plaid, ginghad, plaham?

The Yarn

Super Yarn Mart! Odd Balls

Color: Lemon Meringue*
Content: 100% miscellaneous odd lots of undetemined fiber content

Bucilla softex

Color: 26 [Butterscotch*]
Content: 100% Dupont Orlon Acrylic Fibre

All yarns were worsted/aran weights. I did not keep good track of the unlabeled yarns, as this was a learning project. All colors fall within the yellow-orange spectrum, including some self-named colors: Buttercup* and Gold.*

Below is the palette I worked from, incorporating lightest shades first.
