About The Name

About Amazing Shawl

Care: Machine Wash Cool, Lay Flat to Dry
Dimensions: 40-inch wingspan x 14-inch depth
Value: USD $117.00 – USD $17.00/yarn + $100.00/labor ($10.00/hr)
Price: USD $68.00

I only wish I had more Amazing yarn to make an even more amazing shawl. I improvised the pattern; had I been blessed with more foresight, I would have introduced a lace spine, but calculations were bogging me down.

My only other self-criticism would be the final border, which actually looks fine and actually works. I meant to gradually introduce the seed stitch and then begin the ribbing below a five-row seed stitch repeat versus beginning the rib below a one-row seed stitch repeat. Click images for enlargement/slide show.

About The Yarn

Lion Brand Amazing

Color: 211 Strawberry Fields
Content: 53% Wool; 47% Manufactured Fibers – Acrylic
Weight: 4, Worsted

I knew I was knitting with smaller needles (US 6) when I started and was just too lazy to change to the correct size. I just wanted to start. At first, my tension was way tight, evidenced by cramping fingers. Once I relaxed, I zipped right along. I have finished only one other project as fast: Mojo’s Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Dog Sweater, back in 2011!

Wanting to add something different, and to avoid stockinette curling, I inserted some seed stitch followed, and ending, with one-by-one ribbing. Even though I contradicted my pattern planning, I am extremely happy with the finished project.

I Heard It Through The Grapevine Cowl

I Heard It Through The Grapevine – USD $60.00

About The Name

I Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye

Doh! This connection should be obvious: Purple, grape. If you require further elucidation, notice the rows on this cowl; just like grapevines are grown here in sunny central California.

About The Cowl

Dimensions: 12-inch width x 24-inch diameter
Price: USD $60.00

Made with three skeins that I acquire from CSNanaCat during her recent de-stashing.

A previous employer had made a cowl similar to this, but knitted in seed stitch. I fell in love with it and have always wanted one but never knew the pattern or the exact measurements. I am really liking this cowl and may just end up keeping it.

Because I Got High Cowl

About The Name

Because I Got High by Afroman

Today is 4/20, the unofficial day of marijuana and this is what you come up with when you have – a believed – incomplete skein of yarn, ODDBALL.

About Because I Got High

Care: Consult a dry cleaner.
Dimensions:
12-inch diameter x 4-inch width
Price: USD $10.00

Because the targeted scarf was too short, I improvised a connection and turned it into a cute little cowl.

About The Yarn

This ODDBall came to me from CSNanaCat, as part of her de-stash. It was unlabeled and it appeared to me to be incomplete.

Over The Rainbow Shawl

Over The Rainbow Shawl | USD $183.56

About The Project Name

Over The Rainbow by Judy Garland from The Wizard of Oz

I just watched the video and started crying all over again. This song makes me so emotional for it’s lyrics, melody, performer’s tragic life, and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the results of my own hand-dye job.

About The Over The Rainbow

Dimensions: 88-inch wingspan x 24-inch height

This has been quite a process and the race to finish only minorly screwed up my knitting on this shawl, most notably in the lace, which I had to learn how to knit from charts…AIYAA!

At first, the whole shawl was going to be the knit from the Knit Picks yarn, but after only one repeat of lace, I did not like how the lace design got lost in the yarn color. This is a known tenet that I thought might make and exception in my case – apparently not! :D At this realization, and after cofirming I could knit the stockinette field ad infinitum as long as I maintained a multiple of six, I decided to use the entire skein of Knit Picks for the stockinette field.

This left me with the dilemma of coming up with a complementary second color. I was fortunate enough to go shopping with Ms. Tia at Jennifer Knits and then to Needlepoints West. At Jennifer Knits, the yarn I loved was a celery but at USD $60.00/skein, that was not going to fly, as I haven’t even sold half of what I’ve made over the years and probably because of that, I am not rich. At Needlepoints West, it was the last skein I saw that fit my desired effect: I had seen the multicolor as a garden – perhaps Munchkinland – and the tonal brown yarn I found would resemble the garden trellis.

Karma Chameleon Afghan: Complete

Karma Chameleon Afghan: Complete

I am liking it too much. The simplicity of the design juxtaposed with the name is pure genius…is what I wish I would hear. 😀

The Name

Karma Chameleon by Culture Club

OMG! I’m going to see The Boy in concert some time this year. I know. I am such an airhead I haven’t even checked when the concert date is yet. 🤓 😀 😜 So this was my inpiration; I think at the time I was laying this project out I had just acquired a $250.00 bill for ONE ticket to see The Boy at The Greek Theater of all places with my favorite band of all time: The B-52’s!

OMG! Did I mention I am going to see The Boy? 🙃😀

Karma Chameleon Afghan
Karma Chameleon Afghan | USD $40.00

The Afghan

Designation:

  • ODDBALLS because I don’t have any yarn labels?
  • Charity because I received the unfinished project from a guild member who won the unfinished project from a guild meeting raffle?
  • A Hooker’s World because I still hold out hope that the right person will like my stuff and buy it?

Dimensions: 50 Length x 34 width, measured in inches
Price: USD $40.00 is about worth my time and the possible development of additional tendonitis. 🙄

I received a huge bag of square  motifs with a primary surplus of Caron One Pound and bits of color yarn. Admittedly, I had a hell of a time arranging the sqaures on my computer. Finally, I thought just keep it simple and shift the colors one column every row. Just when I had that thought I had learned that I was the proud owner of a Boy ticket and wanted to name an item for Culture Club becuase they were so inpsirational in my youth.

Anyhoo…it is pure coincidence that the arrangement of the motifs also represents the changing colors on a chameleon, a reptile I would love to possess as a pet. Then I’d have someone to hold hands with; Mojo doesn’t like to hold hands. 😓

With the left over motifs, I have plans to make a project bag; I am fortunate enough to have matched tension and can crochet the missing squares I might need. With the final motifs – larger than others – I will make something else. Perhaps something to throw at The Boy because if I am right, I think my seat is three rows behind the pit, center section!

Some of the motifs have yellowed; either from smoke or age, I’m not sure as they have had time to air out and I don’t remember how they smelled when I got them. 🤓 I will wash and hope for color balance. This may affect additional discounts on the price.

The Yarn

Lion Brand Yarn Pound of Love

Care: Machine Washing and Drying: For best results, machine wash, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly. Or you may handwash and lay flat to dry.
Color: 100 White
Content: 100% Preumium Acrylic
Weight: 4, Worsted

Unknown

Suggested Care: Machine wash, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry on low.
General Colors: Pink, Fucshia, Magenta, Purple, Blue, Green, Teal
Believed Content: Acrylic
Approximated Weight: 4, Worsted

I started the LBY Pound of Love to sew all the pieces together; at least one thing is consistent, as I believe some of the colors are different yarns, but the same weight and content.

Design Notes

Motifs were joined with top slip stitch because bottom created “valley.” I realize/think now that I should have slipped tops of double crocheted versus back/front loops. It doesn’t really matter because my tension was was a bit tight causing puckering. I am hoping a washing may relax the afghan. I actually like the puckering effect. I might try to achieve a much looser tension next time to relieve puckering.

I love the design and think the afghan is very attractive for its simplicity.

About The Pattern

Pixie Ruffle Shawl by Susan Sheby

Easy to follow. Loved the method of creation and might have to investigate this model further for a bigger crescent-shaped shawl, though this one really expanded without my realization.

About The Yarn

Colinette Tagliatelli

Color: Fire 71
Content: 90% Merino pure wool, 10% Nylon
Weight: 5, Bulky

Surprised to learn of merino wool content; nylon stretchiness apparent. Easy to work with. I was needlessly concerned about ribbon-twisting affecting knit pattern; as I learned I could knit right through twisting, work with ribbon became even easier.

Design Notes

I was smart this time and alternated between two balls of ribbon every two rows, so I would not have an issue with pooling pattern shifting.
